About the company

T

" We produce up to 40,000 tons of castings a year for major industries. "

History of the foundry

The casting industry has a long tradition in Třinec. The first foundry was built here in 1842, three years after the founding of Třinecké železárny. The foundry has always been important for the plant’s production flow; for the first thirty years of the ironworks’ existence, all iron made in the blast furnaces was processed in the foundry. At that time, castings for commercial uses were primarily made.

Gradually, the core of production activities shifted to rolling mills and the foundry began to play a support role. Its technological and technical development followed the needs of the steel works and over time also the needs of other metallurgical companies in Czechoslovakia and particularly the Moravian-Silesian Region.

After 1989, the plant had to refocus on production other than metallurgical and the foundry had to switch from a support to a purely commercial company. For this reason, in late March 1999 the foundry became an independent subsidiary of Třinecké železárny: Slévárny Třinec, a.s.
